Another XC Marathon Race in the books, and again, Dan outdoes himself. This year there was a little over 200 riders for the Half and Full Marathon Races. From TVG, Tyler, Brian and Chris W were all out to enjoy the beautiful weather, awesome trails, and great friends.
Before starting off about the day, we have to thank all of the volunteers who were out helping Dan in timing booth, out on the course aid station, Dan, his parents for the awesome BBQ, and the fantastic jelly beans after the race. Another great event!
To put this race into context, it was similar to Dufferin forest, but just double the climbing…. So a lot of climbing…
The race started on a nice long 5km double track gradual climb through some fantastic sand dunes… Fat Bikes had a huge advantage on the sand as Brian was plowing through it like it was snow.
After the climb we dove into the first of many long singletrack sections. The singletrack was so smooth, flowly, with short climbs and short downhills which you could just coast and carry your speed.
Over the course of the day, the group spread out nicely to the point where i had sections of singletrack to my self, noone else around! At one point, I hooked up with a local rider who proceeded to tell me that there is around 100km of singletrack in the forest. So if you are looking for a place to ride for a day, this is a destination for sure. From Alliston it took about 2hr to drive out there.
At the end of the day, would I do that race again, for sure! No issues with Poison Ivy for us so that is a positive!
Brian who rode the race on his fat bike ended up finishing 3rd in Fat Bike Category!
