Well we were at it again last night, the temperature was beautiful, the sun was shining and the fat bikes were ready to rock and roll for another ride. As you are driving towards Mansfield coming from the south you can see dirt, and lots of it along the ridge, so that gave us hope that we would be able to ride a small section of singletrack.
Our decision was to head straight for it, down the snowmobile trail to the back and across. On our way down, we rode part of the race course for the Homage to Ice this weekend. If it crusts up overnight before the race it will be a lot of fun for everyone. For us, it was soft and wet, as the wheels sunk through the crust every once and a while, so you had to stay alert or you were being shot off the trail, or off the bike.
After a lot of struggling through the snow, we made it to where there was dirt, and lots of it.. We biked until we found the singletrack that Dan will be using in the race, and yes folks, Drum roll, we rode singletrack, dirt singletrack!!!!! let it be known that it may still have snow in section, and was maybe a 1/2 km in length but it was so great!! we even had to fix the trail as there was a path around a log crossing…
All in all we had a great ride, it was a workout for sure, and came in at just shy of 12km length, but felt like 30km…
Fat Tire Rating: 3.25 out of 5, 5 out of 5 on the singletrack
Skinny Tire Rating: n/a
